Novak Djokovic's training injury is revealed following his Monte-Carlo Masters departure.
Novak Djokovic's arm issue that plagued him during his Monte-Carlo Masters campaign was caused by a training error. According to newly released photos from one of his pre-tournament training sessions, the world No. 1 appears to have damaged his arm while stretching for a shot.
Concerns over his injuries arose after he was seen using strapping on his right arm during another practise session prior to the event. He had his arm bandaged again during Thursday's Round of 16 loss to Lorenzo Musetti.
Djokovic injured himself during a practise session with Matteo Berrettini, as shown in a few photos released on social media by tennis photographer Corinne Dubreuil. The 22-time Grand Slam winner could be seen cringing in agony.
Djokovic began his campaign in Monte-Carlo with a 7-6(5), 6-2 triumph against qualifier Ivan Gakhov in a far from stellar effort. He was defeated 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 by Musetti in a tumultuous Round 16 match that was also disrupted by a rain delay.
When asked about his arm injury after the game, the 35-year-old refused to divulge any details, just saying that he was 'OK.'
"I have nothing to say. I'm ok. I'm perfectly fine. Congratulations to him. "We move on," he remarked at the post-game press conference.
At the same time, he confirmed his participation in the Srpska Open in Banja Luka next week.
"Next week I play in Banja Luka," he said."I don't think it's catastrophic," Novak Djokovic said of his poor performance in the Monte Carlo Masters since 2016.
